nVidia

In February Nvidia had launched some information about its Mobile HD platform for handheld devices like PDA’s etc. A recent product briefing by Dailytech further revealed that APX 2500 has a power consumption of only 50mw which allows the chip to run upto 10 hours with a single battery charge, thus making APX 2500 ideal for handheld devices. Nvidia states that the first devices to use the APX 2500 platform will be launched within this year.

Nvidia says that APX 2500 is a single chip processor whose size is less than a dime and the APX 2500 chip will include an ARM 11 core processor with a maximum speed of 750MHz, a Geforce based GPU, a high definition Audio and Video processor, memory and an Input/Output system all within the same package. Though APX 2500 is not bigger than a dime, APX 2500 is capable of running HD videos through HDMI. APX 2500 is stated to deliver high definition video content upto 720p in H.264, Mpeg and VC-1 formats. The Geforce GPU inside APX 2500 is capable of producing 3D graphics with features like programmable pixel shader, vertex and lighting and sampled Anti Aliasing.

Last Year nVidia released there not so successful chipset 590 series for Intel Core 2 Duo Series of Lineup. The chipset was a very poor overclocker but had many new features and one of them was nVidia’s Linkboost technology. In this technology if the motherboard finds 2 7900GTX, then the frequency of both graphic interfaces is automatically set from default 100 MHz to 125 MHz, and simultaneously the frequency of system bus HT between chipset bridges increases from 200 to 250 MHz. This solution ensures a increase in the capacity by 25% (theoretically) and it can give a certain performance gain.
