Dell Set To Go Green By 2008

Dell’s Green Notebook

Dell apparently is all set to go totally green, carbon neutral, by the year 2008. Mr. Dell himself pledged that. There’s been a lot of fuss over sometime past about this Ozone layer thing and its rising to a crescendo recently. Everybody is eager to lend their acoustic power to the whole thing!

What Mr. Dell said and apparently big boys are paying attention is “ There’s been a time in history of business where it’s more important for organizations of all sizes to partner together to positively impact the Earth that we all share… It’s not enough for Dell to be an environmental leader. We also need to partner with our customers … to dramatically improve our own customers’ environmental impacts”

Dell plans to create more energy efficient products and will utilize other energy efficient sources during production. Those measures seem a bit ambiguous to us—let’s see a completely biodegradable laptop made from nothing but recycled toilet rolls, then we would be impressed. Very, very impressed.

Another Price Hike In $100 OLPC Laptop

OLPC Laptop

The $100 laptop—which was already up to a hefty $175, has gotten yet another price bump to $188. A spokesman says they’re committed to keeping the price from rising above $190, and probably below $200 if at all possible. It’s very strange that the price keeps rising, seeing as it’s been, what, two years since the project was announced, plus they’ve gotten more orders from companies so they can ramp up bulk production. Shouldn’t hardware prices have dropped instead of risen ?
