AnySIM iPhone Unlock App

AnySIM

GUI version of iUnlock has just been released by the iPhone development team. An Installer.app version is coming soon that will let you download the file over any EDGE or Wi-Fi network into your phone and run it. Look for most recent version on the development team’s wiki, but here’s our mirror site anyway. Here’s hoping that the next firmware update on the iPhone won’t bork the iunlock. As always, there are no guarantees though your iPhone won’t get gummed up!

UPDATE : Apple claims this may result in “Permanently Inoperable i-Phone”

Spider-Man Walkie-Talkie

If you thought action figures and walkie-talkies are too expensive to give to kids, these Spiderman III walkie-talkies may still make you feel good about being a decent parent. The walkie-talkies are shaped like Spiderman and Venom and like in the movie they raise a racket squawking when they get close.

Now what are you waiting for !

Be a good parent get one for your kid and if you don’t have any, remember Cool Wizard is a kid too.

iPod Touch Reviewed

iPod Touch

The new iPod Touch sounds fantastic for people who want all of the iPhone features sans the calling set. PC Magazine got their hands on a early piece and found it to be as good as the iPhone in terms of most everything. There’s a new feature on the iPod Touch though, double clicking the home button brings up the music related controls no matter where you are currently on the menu tree.

All in all, if you have a iPhone, there’s no reason to rush out and get one of these. But if you don’t own a iPhone and want the touch-screen facility then this is for you.

Our Take : Just like the iPhone, a shade better as a music player.

Another Price Hike In $100 OLPC Laptop

OLPC Laptop

The $100 laptop—which was already up to a hefty $175, has gotten yet another price bump to $188. A spokesman says they’re committed to keeping the price from rising above $190, and probably below $200 if at all possible. It’s very strange that the price keeps rising, seeing as it’s been, what, two years since the project was announced, plus they’ve gotten more orders from companies so they can ramp up bulk production. Shouldn’t hardware prices have dropped instead of risen ?

Sony SRS-ZX1 Speakers

Sony SRS-ZX1

Aside from the creepy robots and good food, there are other reasons to want to be Japanese — like Sony’s SRS-ZX1 speakers. The shiny, metallically chic speakers come with a technology that Sony calls the “Mobius Duct” which supposedly creates a potent low-frequency response. The thing is, no one really knows what a Mobius Duct is, except a fancy way of saying “better bass than some other low-end speakers.”

Duct aside, the speakers measure 3.1 x 6.6 x 7.4-inches — so, they’re portable in a not-that-portable sort of way. They’ll also have a built-in amp with 2x analog inputs and 20W x 2 channel output. The speakers will be out on October 20th, only in Japan, for ¥49,350 or roughly $426.

Logitech MX5500: Bluetooth Desktop System

Logitech MX5500

There may not be tiny LCD screens on each key, but Logitech’s new high-end Vista-friendly keyboard-and-mouse pairing, the $170 MX5500 Revolution Cordless Desktop, does have an integrated display for time, calculator functions, media controls and incoming messages.

The price includes the MX Revolution laser mouse, typically a $100 value. It also includes Bluetooth 2.0 integrated throughout the system, although I am a wee bit suspicious of the one-USB-port system requirement. I’d hope that is where the mouse’s rapid-charging station goes, but I’m not holding my breath.

Dupont’s 2GB Flash Drive

Welcome to your latest installment of “Basic Gadgets Decked out in Precious Materials.” Today’s contender is a solid Palladium, 2GB flash drive by S.T. Dupont, retailing at a cool $700.

Though the metal maybe reason enough to relieve you of your bills, S.T. Dupont has also gone the great length of fashioning the flash drive’s surface with its trademark diamond-head pattern. If that shall not convince you to blow your pocket money, perhaps the choice of three colours : turquoise, pink and black shall have you queuing up? No? We didn’t think so.

Sansa Clip MP3 Player

Finally, get the clip without losing your foreskin! The Sansa Clip will have tiny MP3 players running scared; the Shuffle and the Zen Stone better watch out, as the little Clip is set to show them a thing or two in miniscule music playback. Jump for the details.

Available in both 1GB and 2GB varieties the storage size is standard in the field, what is not standard is the inclusion of an FM radio, OLED screen, voice recorder and a more than reasonable 15 hour battery life. Playback formats supported will be MP3 and WMA only, but at $40 (1GB) and $60 (2GB), what are you complaining about? The small guy with big tricks is set for a September debut in those fun colours of black, red, blue and our favourite, pink. At this rate the Sansa Clip may even have a certain fatty running scared. Chinavasion’s MP3 Cassette Player

We have an endearment to cassette inspired gadgets and those who create them. For that reason, we applaud Chinavasion for their spectacular MP3 Cassette Player. It is shaped like a cassette. It is an MP3 player. Does it require any more tricks to seduce you? Probably not, but nonetheless, there is still a little something up its plastic sleeve. The MP3 player is not shaped like an audiocassette without reason; it can actually be played through a cassette deck! It does not come supplied with any memory at all; you must supply your own SD/MMC card (2GB maximum). It shall only playback MP3 encoded tracks, has a USB2.0 connection, rechargeable battery and only supports Windows 2000 (anyone still use this?)/XP. Launch dates and pricing details not confirmed at present.

If you have wondered what your MP3s would sound like pumping out of archaic stereo deck you have lying about, wonder no more. Much like our once, thick, luscious hair, the cassette used to do quite a nifty job. Unfortunately, like our present day, sad comb over, the cassette is also forced into attempting to impress the ladies by pretending to be something it is not. It probably is not going to work out great for it either, but you have to love the effort. Take a bow Mr. Cassette MP3; we still love you with all of our partially balding heads. Guys, lose the comb overs no one loves the effort.
