xpantivirusp-300x229 Removing Xp Antivirus 2008/2009 So i had a new computer dead slow and a software I never installed showing viruses in a number I can’t even count! So i started digging the details about Windows XP Antivirus 2008, which forcibly sat on my system trying to convince me that my new machine is infected with some 12,XXX types of viruses, even added a warning Message on my desktop and restricted me from changing it by simply right clicking and clicking on Properties, because the complete “Desktop” tab was gone!

Starting with a slight bit of Information about this annoying piece of Code, well this “very helping” tool is yet another name among the malicious software Rogue security Software makers create and inject using xponlinescanner.com, the only reason behind this is to make the annoyed/scared user buy their software, and for this they will go to any extent, like i mentioned fake messages, warnings, and other Found Viruses ITS ALL FAKE! You can read full details about them at Wikipedia: Link

Installing The Shield

First Step was to Install a Good trustable AntiSpyware as no one would like to get another trojan in the hope of removing one! So my choice was Ad-Aware 2008, from Lavasoft, a  free Version of which can be Obtained here. They are not paying me to download this! so you are free to try other options like AVG AntiVirus and O have checked even Avast Works.

Okay so you will download and install any one of these and do a system scan, it will definitely put on hold on affects of this Badware, but if it doesn’t actually terminate the program  and other indirect effects, like disabled Task Manager, Folder Option gone! Just in case you will need follow these few steps,

Unregister dll’s

Open Run, type cmd for the command prompt to open, and type regsvr32 /u shlwapi.dll and hit enter key, followed by regsvr32 /u wininet.dll and the Enter key.

Press CTRL+ALT+DEL key, the task manger will pop open, click on the Process tab and you will see some randon name there like “retrhergehgr.exe” without thinking once right click and terminate it, then delete all files and folder from C:\Program Files\XP Antivirus.

* In case your Task Manager is Being Disabled, Keep this small but very helpful tool with your self named Flash Disinfector its actually being designed to “Disinfect” computer from infections of a Flash Storage Drive, but it does all the job. Run it once and you will get rid of small problems like Task Manager being disabled, other Administrative Option like folder options caused by registry hacks, without needing you to download a separate registry fixing tool. Download and keep this tool with you!

Some other Precautionary Steps will be

  • Removing all the Scheduled Tasks entries which you suspect and you haven’t created By Going to Control Panel -> Scheduled Tasks
  • Deleting Suspicious Startup Entries, by clicking on Run from Start Menu and Typing “msconfig” without quotes and click on startup tab, if you see any suspicious startup entry there, uncheck it from there. If you will follow these steps, you will be getting rid of this nasty Adware Windows XP Antivirus 2008 along with many others in matter of minutes and restrict them from coming back again :)
