Modding Of Sony Ericsson Phones - Part I
Tagged Under : Modding, Sony Ericsson
Well in my last post, we told you about the different phones that can be modded. Now it’s time for some real modding. Today we are going to learn some basics of Sone Ericsson Modding. Please keep in mind that this guide covers both DB 2010/12 and DB 2020 but excludes DB 3150 phones. Please refer to this POST to know which DB series your phone belongs to.
First of all you need to install Sony Ericsson PC Suite and after that please download the USB Drivers from here. Extract the files in any folder on your desktop. Now switch off your phone and press C and then connect the wire which you use to connect to your phone to your PC. Then a new dialog box will pop-up saying new Hardware Found.
Now just locate the Drivers which you had extracted and then the drivers will get installed.
Now windows May prompt you saying that Drivers you are trying to install has not passed Windows Logo Testing and maybe unsafe to Install. Just Click on Continue anyway and soon the drivers will be installed.
Now Download XS++ which you will need for nearly all your Modding tasks. Here is the Download Link of XS++. Now just extract XS++ wherever you want and start it. Now click on Connect and then make sure that your phone is switched off, press “C” and connect the Cable to your phone. Soon XS++ will show you the details about your phone and then you will have 4 Options – Flash – FSX – GDFS – Patch.
Now we will talk about it in details.
1) Flash – Flash allows you to Flash or Re-install or Upgrade the Firmware of your phone. To flash your phone’s firmware you need 3 things MAIN, File System and Custom Pack. These 3 things need to be compatible with each other else your phone may not work. The MAIN and File system need to be flashed while Custom Pack needs to be uploaded via FSX. The MAIN is in .mbn format and the file system is in .fbn format.
2) FSX - Now we will talk about FSX. FSX plays quite an important role in modding. FSX allows you to change the Acoustics Driver’s, Camera Drivers, Install Flash Menu’s in your phone, remove the operator Layout from your Home Screen and many more things. To Exit FSX Mode, Please Press the Shutdown button instead of Close. After FSX is properly Shutdown, you can use the close button to exit from XS++.
3) GDFS – Now GDFS is the Most Important part of your phone. It is like unique to every phone so it is recommended that whatever you do, before that Backup your GDFS because if it is screwed once, it won’t be easy to get it repaired. The symptoms of GDFS corrupt is a White Screen which comes up when you try to start your phone.
4) Patch - The patching feature of XS++ is not usually used since Patching of your Phone is preferred via FAR manager since usually other Application give error’s while patching.
Also if you want to connect your Smartphone to XS++ please check the Smartphone Connect Radio Box. In my next post, I will tell you people how to change the Acoustic (Sound Drivers) and the Camera Driver’s of your Sony Phone. Till then If you guys had any problem understanding any part of this guide please Leave a comment so that I can help you. This Guide works both in Vista and XP.
