We tested the 24 inch iMac , the big boy of Apple’s all in one desktop line. It is sleek and offer great image quality. Resources include a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 processor, ATI Radeon 2600 Pro graphics card, 1 GB of main memory, a 320 GB HDD and a slot loading DVD burner. The bundle comes in at $1799. It is a modest update though the new design and upgraded specs might make you think otherwise.

PC World test center used the boot camp 1.4 version to load the Vista Home Premium. WorldBench Beta 2 test suite gave out a performance figure of 82. Swift alright but somewhat behind (by about 20%) the 102 scored by average power desktops. The price being what it is we had to place it in the power category.

The 1920×1200 pixel resolution and superior resolution and contrast the image quality is great on this iMac. Apple has gone to a sleek anodized aluminum design in place of the earlier plastic one and it looks good! Like other models before it there’s Firewire 800 port for fast connection to peripherals such as external HD Drives.

The new iMac is appealing but would advise you to hold off for a little while, now that the Leopard delivery is just round the corner. You might as well get a system with the Leopard pre-installed.
