Dell E228WFPc

Dell E228WFPC is no contender for design awards, yet with its competitive prices ($300) and graphics features this 22” monitor would add solid value in a office setting delivering high quality text and graphics.

The monitor passed the jury’s scrutiny without much of a problem. Text and graphics on Word and excel applications were quite clear and sharp. Common web page graphics such images of a group of people or an image of a colorful fruit passed with flying colors! Brilliant were the colors on the object and realistic skin tones on people’s faces & limbs.

This model too had a boomerang shaped stand like many Dell monitors. The stand had a hole inside to pull wires through and save on the wire clutter. The hole was a little too narrow though.

On a movie viewing test running “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” passed off quite well too. Reproduction of greens in the background trees and shrubbery were great. Darkened scenery was good too. One could make out the range of moss covered walls to rock formations. Lighter scenes, particularly in the direct sunlight, color reproduction was not all that good. Reds in particular looked a little oversaturated. Other colors tended to blow out too. Darker skin color had a shadow of orange in them. Overall the movie reproduction was good given its small screen area.

The monitor had five small buttons for navigating the on screen display for extensive control over color, brightness and contrast once you figure out the use. The icons used are a little tricky. Overall, the Dell E228WFPc is a no-frills monitor with solid performance.
